Why It Matters

The Retention Killer: Friction.

We fixed a bug in chimera/core/auth/oauth.py. The refresh token logic was slightly off. It wasn't subtracting the "clock skew" from the expiration time. So the token would expire before the app tried to refresh it.

Result: The user gets logged out every hour.

45 lines added.

This is critical for the Tauri app. If the user has to log in every hour, they will uninstall. They will rage-quit. They will hate us.

Strategic Significance: Retention. Friction kills products. Login friction kills them faster. We want the user to open the app and be in the flow. Not "Login -> 2FA -> Wait -> Flow." Just "Flow." The best interface is no interface. The best login is no login (after the first one).

Cultural Impact: Reliability. We want the app to be "invisible." It should just work. Like a light switch. You don't log in to a light switch. You flip it, and there is light.

Foundation Value: Trust. If the app forgets who you are, you stop trusting it. "Does it remember my data if it can't even remember my name?"

Background Refresh

The refresh happens in a background thread in Rust (tokio::spawn). The Python sidecar just receives the new token via an IPC channel. This ensures the UI never blocks while waiting for the network.

  • Don't wait for a 401 error. Refresh before it expires. This is "Optimistic Auth." It reduces latency for the user because they never hit a "Token Expired" error that triggers a retry.
